Marietta Main Street will once again host the popular Marietta Ice Show in downtown Marietta this upcoming weekend on Saturday, January 16th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This year’s Ice Show will feature 16 hand carved ice sculptures staged throughout downtown from local artist Tyson Whistler plus a live carving on the lawn of the Armory.
Deana Clark, Executive Director of the Marietta-Washington Convention and Visitors Bureau, noted that visitors return each year to see the pieces on display and to enjoy downtown.
“Our Marietta Ice Festival draws visitors who love to bundle up and don their winter clothes to experience the beautiful exhibition of ice sculptures. First timers need to prepare themselves for some serious ice creations as they walk from display to display and experience the truly impressive work of each sculpture,” said Clark.
This year’s sculptures are sponsored by a variety of area businesses and the event itself is sponsored by Glenwood Community. Ashley Bills, Director of Marketing for Glenwood Community, said this event both offers an opportunity to experience a unique local artist in action and to showcase their talented chef, Tyson Whistler, the featured artist for the Ice Show.
“It’s important to participate in events like this to support the small businesses who make our community thrive and the individuals who possess the talent which make it unique,” said Bills.
In addition to Glenwood Community as event sponsor, a variety of area businesses have come together to sponsor this year’s sculptures, including Marietta Brewing Co., Just A Jar Design Press, PrimeLending, Clutch MOV, Marietta-Washington County CVB, Memorial Health System, Baker & Baker Jewelers, Marietta Moose Lodge #1823, Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council, The Cook's Shop, Peoples Bank, We Lov Pets, The Galley, Riverside Artists Gallery, Marietta Adventure Company, Tampico Mexican Restaurant, Rainbow Creek Land & Development, Mattressmax, Tabletop Puzzles & Games, and Andy's Toy Chest.
First time sculpture sponsor We Lov Pets’ General Manager Adam Johnson said he cannot wait to walk around to see each ice sculpture and to catch some of the live carving. He said he’s even allowing We Lov Pets staff to attend the event throughout the afternoon.
“This event is just so unique! It's something you would have to drive 2-3 hours to a much larger city, and instead it's right here in our backyard! We are so lucky to have Tyson here in Marietta!” said Johnson.
Johnson continued, “We love participating in events downtown! Being part of the community is something that is very important to us. Downtown is what makes our town special, it is beautiful, full of history and the heart of our town. Our community working together on projects helps create some of the greatest memories for the wonderful people of Marietta.”
Along with the ability to view ice sculptures and a live carving, Marietta Ice Show visitors can also warm up and enjoy free hot chocolate thanks to Jeremiah’s Coffee House.
